I think the amount of sleep the average person actually needs does depend on each individual...I sleep about 6.25 hours a night on average and that is all I need..tht adds up though over the course of an adult lifetime.

Avg person 9 hours for 60 adult years.

6.25 hours of sleep average for 60 adult years.

In this example your getting an extra 24 hours of awake time every 10 days of your life.

10 full days year...and 600 more days awake in a lifetime on average...almost 2 full years you can save just by being less of a sleep head, of course 95% of gamblers sleep less than avg anyway.

I sleep about 7 on Average......9 hours is way too much.

Life is too short. I can run on 5 hours, but prefer 7

Diet, exercise and rest are the keys to longevity in my book. Also good genes.

I have a friend who is a workaholic. Eats like crap and always on the go. He is only 48 and has had cancer 2 times. I keep telling him to get some rest but he refuses. Averages 4-5 hours a night.

I think anything around 8 on a consistent basis is plenty.

5 to 7... as I get older (I'm 31) I find myself increasingly waking up at 2.30 or 3 then not being able to get back to sleep until about 5 or 5.30... I get up at 6 so it makes for a tired day. I hope its not a trend.

I agree w/ fish...It is at times a boring but very necessary time consumer. Although some Saturday mornings when the rain is hitting the windows and roof I LOVE just laying there and feeling warm and cozy...very cuddly feeling. Even alone : ) I wish I could do 4 hrs but I feel like crap all day. 8-9 is prime although I must admit I have done 15-16 to re-charge my batteries or if I got a cold etc. and just cant get out of bed.

considering we sleep at the very least 1/4 of our lives I can understand why some find sleep boring...

Anyone have a prescription for sleep aids? I had a 10 day prescription for Ambien once. I slept GREAT and woke feeling like a new person. But unfortunately doctor said to use it only when I absolutely could not get to sleep as they were addicting. I suffer big time with getting enough sleep. It gets worse as you age.

Sleep is extremely important for achieving and maintaining your fitness goals.
In the summer I get about 6.5 and in the winter I average about 7

Lots and lots of people have trouble sleeping. You know who doesn't fall into that category? Carpenters, masons, roofers, field workers, farmers and pretty much anyone that breaks their back all day at work.
